The recent visit of President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, to Brazil brought joy to the Indonesian diaspora in the country. Isaque Hattu, Chair of the Indonesian Diaspora in São Paulo, expressed his excitement in welcoming the President and his delegation. Despite being a small community in Brazil, Hattu emphasized the strong bond and solidarity among the Indonesian diaspora when it comes to welcoming their homeland’s leader.
During the warm reception, Hattu had the opportunity to engage in a casual conversation with President Prabowo, sharing insights about his family background originating from Maluku and Kupang. President Prabowo, in response, showed genuine interest and even recognized the name of Petrus Oktavianus, an Indonesian figure who had previously been in Brazil.
As their meeting concluded, Hattu expressed optimism that Prabowo’s leadership would further enhance the relationship between Indonesia and Brazil through cultural exchange, grassroots interactions, and promoting a better understanding of Indonesia’s diverse heritage among Brazilians. This encounter symbolized a significant moment for the Indonesian diaspora in Brazil, showcasing their support and enthusiasm in fostering stronger ties between the two nations.
