President of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, highlighted the importance of the “Bandung Spirit” during the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, shared that President Prabowo emphasized the nation’s commitment to global peace and adherence to international law in his address to the forum. He reiterated Indonesia’s support for global peace through multilateralism and the respect for international law, firmly rejecting war and the use of double standards in international relations.
President Prabowo also emphasized the significance of upholding the “Bandung Spirit” among developing nations, as established during the 1955 Asian-African Conference in Bandung, Indonesia. This spirit embodies principles of solidarity and cooperation. Indonesia’s Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, Arrmanatha Nasir, confirmed that the mention of Bandung was well-received by the summit’s host country, Brazil.
Brazil, serving as the Chair of the summit, had already referenced the Bandung principles in its opening statement, expressing the hope that BRICS could revive the Bandung legacy to further advance the interests of developing nations. President Prabowo’s call for the continuation of the Bandung Spirit within the BRICS forum, particularly in addressing the Palestinian issue, was acknowledged and supported by fellow leaders. This reaffirms Indonesia’s commitment to promoting peace, solidarity, and cooperation on the global stage.
