National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has temporarily halted the operations of its Nutritional Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) after discovering substandard food in the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Program. Redy Hendra Gunawan, the BGN’s Special Staff, announced the suspension in Jakarta on July 28. BGN is working with independent institutions, local health and education departments to investigate the issue and closely monitor the affected students’ health. The agency apologizes to students, parents, schools, and all parties affected by the incident, emphasizing zero tolerance for negligence in procuring and distributing meals that could jeopardize beneficiaries’ health. BGN is collaborating with local authorities to ensure a swift and effective response, implementing measures like stricter partner screening, improved hygiene standards, enhanced food quality monitoring, and developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) based on expert recommendations. The agency is committed to upholding food safety standards in the MBG Program and pledges to deliver benefits without compromising health. This incident will serve as a learning opportunity for future enhancements, with continuous support and vigilance from stakeholders.
