Mercedes G-Class Electric Sales Disappointing
Mercedes hoped for great success with the electric G-Class. However, recent reports show a different story. According to a German business newspaper, Handelsblatt, Mercedes executives have brutally admitted that the electric G-Class is a commercial failure. Sales numbers reveal that only 1,450 units were sold by the end of April, almost a year after its launch, compared to around 9,700 units of the regular G-Class with petrol and diesel engines. The electric version’s high price, lower practicality, weight, and limited range are some of the reasons behind its poor sales performance.
Even though a Mercedes spokesperson claims that the luxury brand is meeting its sales targets, there are doubts about the electric version’s appeal to customers. A Mercedes executive acknowledged that people prefer the traditional G-Class with six or eight-cylinder engines. Despite plans for a smaller electric G-Class in the future, Mercedes might reconsider making it an EV-only model. Stay tuned for more updates on the fate of the electric G-Class and its potential hybrid versions.
